SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Security forces today launched operations in Sopore in North Kashmir and Kulgam in South Kashmir against militants who are hiding in the areas.
Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 22-Rashtriya Rifles of the Army this evening launched an operation on a tip off about the presence of a group of militants in Badami Bagh area of Sopore.
Police and Army conducted house to house searches, however, no militants were found. The operation was going on till late night.
Security forces cordoned off Mohanpora in South Kashmir district of Kulgam this evening after reports of presence of three militants inside the village. They conducted the house to house searches and operation has been put on hold for the night and cordon has been strengthened so that militants present in the village may not flee.
Security forces also cordoned off village Ghat Khudwani in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. However, the operation was called off after scores of youth pelted stones on Police and Army.
In the meantime, Army operation that was launched two days ago in Kupwara forests against a group of militants continued today.
Army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) cordoned off forest area near village Payerpati, Manigah in the frontier district of Kupwara two days ago following specific information about the presence of three militants in the area.
An Army party was fired upon during the searches in the area by the militant group injuring two soldiers Naik Ram Avtar and Sepoy Hokhare Jitender.
Both the soldiers were immediately shifted to military hospital Drugmulla where from they were airlifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.
The operation continued and more troops have joined the operation and a vast forest area has been cordoned off.
Another operation in North Kashmir’s Bandipora forests is going on for last three weeks against a group of LeT militants. So far, one Army jawan was killed in that operation on October 28 and it is going on. The operation in Bandipora forests was launched last month after a group of militants was spotted.
