BHADERWAH, Nov 16: A day after a medico was assaulted by a chemist and his father near Sub-District Hospital (SDH) here, the doctors and para-medical staff suspended work at Bhaderwah and Gandoh hospitals.
Large number of doctors and para-medical staff held protest under the banner of Medical Employees Federation (MEF) and Doctors Association. The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the accused persons at the earliest.
“The incident is very sad and MEF and Doctors Association have decided to start a silent protest against it. Doctors and paramedics will not work until the culprits are booked under Section 307 RPC (attempt to murder)”, Riyaz Ahmed Najar, president, MEF said.
He added that the silent protest will turn into indefinite strike if all the accused are not arrested and booked under Section 307 RPC by tomorrow morning.
BMO Bhaderwah Dr Yudhvir Singh termed the incident as unfortunate. He added that doctors are generally on the receiving end when it comes to such incidents. We cannot fight back but we will show our displeasure and continue to work silently, he stated.
The doctors and paramedics who were protesting at SDH Bhadarwah were joined by several social workers and political leaders of the area.
“We are suffering a lot due to the paucity of the doctors at Bhaderwah and these incidents will further discourage the doctors to join their duties here. The culprits should be booked under relevant Sections”, said a protesting social worker Mohammad Ashraf Goni.
However, due to protest, the patients also faced many hardships, as the doctors refused to attend them till action is initiated against the persons indulged in assaulting the medico.
As reported, on November 14, a doctor posted at SDH Bhaderwah namely Dr Mudasir Arif was on his way to his office, when a chemist shop owner namely Manan and his father Irshad Ahmed, residents of Bhaderwah had an altercation with him and later assaulted the doctor, causing grave head injuries to the latter.
The profusely bleeding doctor was rushed to SDH Bhaderwah and was later referred to District Hospital Doda, from where he was shifted to Government Medical College and Hosptial (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
However, police arrested Irshad Ahmed, while his son escaped from the spot and hunt is going on to nab him.
A case in this regard already stands registered at Bhaderwah police station.
