Rehabilitation of border area migrants demanded

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: A deputation of MLA, Poonch, Nowshera and Bishnah called on Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla here today and appealed for the rehabilitation of border area migrants.
The deputation demanded rehabilitation of border area migrants and immediate redressal of the problem of the people living in the border areas especially of Poonch, Nowshera and Bishnah who have suffered huge losses in respect of life and property.
MLA, Bishnah Ashwani Kumar put forth the issue of rehabilitation of border migrants  and stressed upon the Minister to make rehabilitation policy in favour of these unfortunate  people  who are living  under fear and in very bad conditions. He demanded that these migrants should be rehabilitated at safer places and 5 marlas of land should be allotted to each family so that their children can survive and get proper education for the betterment of the State.
He said border security forces have acquired land of the people near border area for the fencing purpose due to which their land is not being cultivated and they are suffering huge loss besides, no compensation has been given to them. He urged the Minister that they should be provided some rent or relief. He said about 3000 families are suffering due to various problems.
MLA Poonch, Aijaz Jan urged for the immediate rehabilitation of people living in the Poonch border who have suffered a lot for several years. He demanded opening of border docks which have been closed due to fencing and people should be allowed towards these docks.
MLA, Nowshera,  Radhay Sham Sharma also stressed for the early restorative policy for these people living in miserable conditions. He said due to shelling, in year 2001 about 2000 families living in Nowshera and Sunderbani border areas left their homes and migrated to other places and resided in various refugee camps and in year 2005 they were sent back to their homes in very distress conditions.
He said these people were not rehabilitated and have been ignored. He demanded that these people should be settled at par with Pallanwalla sector and urged for formulation of  policy for their rehabilitation and protection and forwarding  the same to Government of India.
Mr. Bhalla gave patient hearing to the deputation and said that issue of  rehabilitation of the border migrants has already been taken up with the concerned authorities for their redressal.
He said he has had a meeting with Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Chairperson UPA, Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister, regarding the rehabilitation of these people and they have assured support and cooperation. He said that  concerned authorities including Deputy Commissioners of border areas have been asked to submit the detailed report of effected people
Minister also said that Government will do its best for the reformation and rehabilitation of the border migrants and will solve the issue once for all. Such policy would be implemented in the other districts of the State including Kupwara and Baramulla also, he added.
