WASHINGTON, Nov 18: India has made a mass purchases of LED lights with a current order for a few hundred million over three years, considerably bringing their cost down to distribute it among the rural population, US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has said.
“India is making mass purchases of LEDs. They have a current order for a few hundred million over three years. And with that, they have driven the cost down for them to a dollar. Amazing,” Moniz said in his address to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on the Paris Climate conference.
“Of course, their goal here, they are going to use that to distribute to their rural population where introducing lighting of this type is a game changer, literally a life changer for families,” Moniz said.
Moniz said the idea is with LEDs requiring roughly one-sixth the power, it dramatically reduces what they need to pay to get the source of electricity for the lighting. (AGENCIES)
