REASI, Aug 29: After the refusal of marriage by both the families, the young couple jumped into river Chenab from the bridge near Reasi and was washed away this evening.
The eye-witnesses told police that a young boy and girl came on a scooter from Reasi side and parked their bike at the middle of the bridge. Then they mounted on the side wall of the bridge and holding hands both jumped into the mighty river and disappeared in its strong currents. The securitymen on both sides of the bridge ran towards the site. They noticed the voter card/ I-cards of the both and also found mobile phones lying on the scooter, parked at the bridge.
They informed Reasi police about the matter. Some more people gathered there. SHO Reasi, Mr Samyal with some cops arrived at the spot. He seized the scooter and other belongings of the couple and informed their families.
The police identified both the deceased persons as 25-year old Hardev Singh, son of Ratan Singh, resident of Mongri (Pancheri) and Kajal (17), daughter of Sansar Chand, resident of Tind village near Salal. It is said that boy has been working as driver with an agency in Reasi area. The couple intended to go for marriage. They also remained missing for about two weeks but their family members were opposed to the marriage.
They preferred to go for committing suicide and jumped into the river this evening. The police and family members were searching for their bodies.
