Staff, cop suspended for copying in exam

SRINAGAR, Nov 22: A photograph of a policeman and some civilians facilitating copying at a board examination centre in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district went viral on social networking sites today, prompting authorities to shift the centre and place the supervisory staff under suspension.
Many family members, friends and even an on-duty policeman were photographed while helping candidates of class 10th examination at the centre at Government Higher Secondary School, Tekipora Lolab in the district yesterday.
The pictures were posted on social networking sites, calling upon the authorities to act.
Acting upon the complaints, Director, School Education, Kashmir Shah Faesal today said the department has decided to shift the examination center.
“We have decided to shift the center and change the supervisory staff,” Faesal said in a post on Facebook.
He said Education Minister Naeem Akhtar also spoke to Director General of Police K Rajendra to seek action against any policemen involved.
“It is a very sad thing to have happened. Education Minister has requested DGP to take action against these policemen who have put us to shame,” he said.
The Director said copying in exams reflects the overall ethical make-up of a society.
“BOSE (Board of School Education) is trying its best to deal with it,” he said.
An official spokesman said the invigilator staff deployed at Government Higher Secondary School, Tikipora, Lolab has been removed and placed under suspension following complaints of copying at the examination centre.
Taking cognizance of the complaints of abetment of copying by the invigilator staff and the cops, the Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar asked the Director School Education Kashmir to initiate immediate disciplinary action against the Education Department employees.
Following the directions of the Minister, the invigilator staff and the Principal of the Higher Secondary School have been placed under suspension pending inquiry to be conducted by the SDM Lolab.
“I have ordered a thorough probe to be conducted by SDM Lolab into the complaints of abetment of copying by the invigilator staff and the cops,” Akhtar said adding that pending inquiry the staff alongwith the Principal of the institute have been placed under suspension.
Meanwhile, the Director General Police has also placed under suspension the cops deployed on examination duty at the examination centre.
