JAMMU, Nov 24: Senior Congress leader, former Minister and PCC general secretary Dr Manohar Lal Sharma said that the BJP Government in Centre and BJP-PDP coalition dispensation in the State are responsible for destroying the agriculture and allied sectors.
In a statement, Dr Sharma said that farmers’ community plays key role in the nation building and its contribution to the national economy is not forgettable. This is a big jolt to farmers’ community that the subsidy on fertilizers and seed has been decreased day-by-day and at present instead the MSP of the farmers growth has not been decided due to which the farmers are under pressure to sell their produce on low prices, he added.
The farmers are not able to pay the loans taken from banks under Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) and other schemes which is the main cause of suicidal attempts by them. Now at this stage the farmers’ community particularly youth is thinking over to give up the farming due to non-seriousness, anti-farmers and pro-corporate policy of the Government.
He added that the pseudo slogan of co-operative federalism given by Modi Government exposed all their intentions towards the farming community as well as small businessmen, who are suffering badly by these reasons. Timely fixation of the MSP will be an immediate relief to the farmers/producers, he said.
Dr Sharma said if the Government is interested to save the farming sector which is under acute threat, then it should immediately provide sufficient subsidy on the seed and fertilizers including other agriculture inputs, interest free soft loans on KCC, fixation of MSP and proper system of procurement of the agriculture produce on local level so that the farmers may be able to continue their profession and contribute further in nation building.
