SAMBA, Aug 30: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pradeep Gupta conducted a tour of border areas of Samba and Ghagwal Blocks of District Samba to take stock of developmental activities under various schemes.
During the tour, he also visited village Chachwal and presented a cash award of Rs. 5100 alongwith citation and memento to Sukhdev Singh, son of Balkar Singh for providing information to BSF authorities and the public about the incident of tunnel dug by the anti-national elements across the border, in the month of July, 2012.
The DIG, BSF, N.S.Jamwal, who accompanied the Divisional Commissioner, presented cash award of Rs.5000 in acknowledgement of the courage shown by the Sukhdev Singh.
The Divisional Commissioner lauded the role of villagers living close to the IB as they are providing all kind of support to Para-Military and Army deployed at the border. The residents of these villages, in the past have also shown extraordinary courage in difficult times especially in detecting and checking the infiltration from across the border.
The villagers expressed certain grievances like shortage of drinking water and power supply in the area.
The Divisional Commissioner issued instructions to District Development Commissioner, Samba for immediate redressal of their grievances and also to ensure that works taken up under BADP are executed as per the needs of the people living in border areas. He also informed that an amount of Rs. 4.98 crore has been sanctioned by the Govt. during the current financial year and the proportionate amount will be utilized in these villages, as well.
Later, he also visited the area close to the fencing on the IB to take stock of situation and had detailed discussion with the senior officers of the BSF at BOP Chilyari.
The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by DDC Samba Mubarak Singh, ADC-B.S.Jamwal, DIGs of BSF Narinder Singh and Varinder Singh and other senior officers of the District.
Later, the Divisional commissioner had a meeting with district officers to review the progress of various state and centrally sponsored schemes like RGGVY, PMGSY, NRDWP, NRHM etc. and major flagship programmes MG-NREGA, SSA, IAY etc.
The DDC gave a detailed resume of physical and financial progress registered under various schemes through a power point presentation.
The Divisional Commissioner laid stress on constant monitoring of works so that major projects and the schemes are completed within the stipulated time to avoid spillage and revision of cost. He impressed upon ensuring availability of potable drinking water in all the educational institutions. He directed for early completion of project of Check Dam at Taloor besides planning more irrigation tubewells in border area.
While reviewing the progress under MG-NREGA, he appreciated the efforts of District Administration and Rural Development Department in rejuvenating the water bodies in the district especially construction of Minor Check Dams under MG-NREGA.
