Fortis Hospital performs bilateral hip replacement on 80-yrs-old patient

JAMMU, Nov 28: The first successful bilateral hip replacement on 80-years-old patient was performed at Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.
An 80 year old patient hailing from Jargon, Punjab having fractures in both hips was admitted in Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana.
Dr Neeraj Bansal and his team operated upon the patient successfully in single sitting and patient was able to walk full weight bearing on second day after surgery. The duration of the surgery was less than 90 minutes.
The patient was in pain and was not able to walk or sit. The patient was hypertensive for last 15 years. Moreover, the age of patient was also consideration while taking the patient was surgery, said Dr Bansal.
He informed that the incidence of bilateral hip fracture is not very common. Usually these types of fractures happen in young epileptic patients besides trauma, he added.
