UDHAMPUR, Aug 30: All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU) has urged upon the authorities to provide credit cards and pass-books to the farmers in the State.
Addressing one day convention of delegates at Town Hall, Ramnagar today, former legislator and chairman of the Union, Ashok Kumar Sharma, expressed his concern over the alleged non-seriousness of the Government in addressing problems of the farmers in the State. He alleged that farmers are staging protests at many places for want of fertilizers, seeds and other benefits. Even despite tall claims, the Government has failed to provide credit cards and pass-books to the majority of members of farming community in the State.
Mr Sharma alleged that people are today struggling for the basic facilities like drinking water, power supply, education and road connectivity. He pleaded for cattle and crop insurance on Government expenses, establishment of Kissan Bhawans and Kissan Mandies at provincial, district and block level. He also demanded that credit cards and pass books be provided to all the 14 lakh farmers in the State to liberate them from the clutches of Patwaris and other revenue officials. He also demanded compensation in favour of farmers who suffered due to drought during Rabi and Kharif crop during 2012 in district Udhampur.
M S Jamwal vice chairman also addressed the gathering besides some Sarpanchs of the area and Kissan leaders. They included Krishan Chand, Darshan, Shiv Lal Pathania, Shambu Ram, Saif Din and Joginder Bangathia.
