Army organises tour for village elders

MENDHAR, Aug 30: An educational tour organised for the village elders/maulvis of remote and far flung areas of Poonch district under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’ by a unit of Romeo Force was flagged in by Officiating Commander, 6 Sect RR here today. The tour was aptly named ‘ Karwan-e-Aman’ as its aim was to bring awareness about the rich historical and cultural heritage of the country.
The tour covered a distance of nearly 2000 Kms by an Air Conditioned  bus over a period of seven days.  The village elders visited Jalianwala Bagh and Golden Temple in Amritsar.  Next day, they saw Chandigarh and enjoyed themselves in the Zoo, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and also visit a Mall.
The tour spent two days in its prime destination Meerut.  They visited the Remount Veterinary Corps Centre and College, where the tour members enjoyed a lot watching the dog show and the horse breeding centre.  Among other places of interest, they visited the Jama Masjid, Gold Market and Sugar distillery.  The tour  members also had a meeting with Imam of Jama Masjid, Meerut.  Mohd Kazi Akhtar Siddiqui and Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari.
Qurban Hussain Shah, 50 yrs old resident of Salani and Mohd Aslam 52 yrs old resident of Bhatidhar were very excited after the tour and said that the event has given them an opportunity to have a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage and the progress and development made by our beloved country.
