CRPF jawan hurt in firing

KATHUA, Nov 30: A CRPF jawan of 121 Bn sustained a bullet injury in accidental fire at Malhar in Billawar tehsil of District Kathua early this morning.
According to DIG Jammu -Kathua Range, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani at about 600 hours today, the CRPF personnel deployed in the area saw some movement in the surroundings which likely could be of a dog or a Barati as the marriages were going on in neighboring area.
He said the Santry on duty suspecting some suspicious element opened fire. This was followed by firing from other CRPF jawans in which one jawan sustained injuries, DIG added.
The injured jawan has been identified as CT/GD Ramesh Kumar Singh. Soon after the incident, senior police and CRPF officers visited the place of incident and after sanitizing the area they found that there were no traces of any kind of militant movement, DIG said.
He said the Jawan was shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment and he is out of danger.
However, panic gripped the area after firing and people also ran helter-skelter.
Meanwhile, CRPF in a handout later clarified that the incident is not related to militancy and it appears a case of accident fire.
