SRINAGAR, Dec 1: A local court today sent a police officer and a constable to judicial custody after they appeared in court after evading arrest in the killing of a student during protests in Srinagar in 2010.
The Court of Forest Magistrate Srinagar, B A Munshi today sent Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Abdul Khaliq Lone and Constable Mohammad Akram to judicial custody for allegedly killing (offence under 304 RPC) a school boy, Wamiq Farooq. He was killed on January 31, 2010 when a teargas shell allegedly hit him on the head near Gani Memorial Stadium at Rajouri Kadal in old city Srinagar.
The Court directed Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar to produce the both accused before Session’s Judge Srinagar, observing that the offence is to be tried by the Sessions Court.
The two cops appeared before the court of Forest Magistrate today in response to a court direction under which they were asked to appear before the court.
Court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant against the two cops as they were evading arrest for several years.
The ASI Khaliq had approach the Supreme Court of India for registering of counter FIR against the victims but the apex court set aside his petition early this year.
