JAMMU, Dec 2: Former Minister and NCP State president Thakur Randhir Singh today called on Vidhya Devi, 107 year old widow of Late freedom fighter Rohlu Singh Manhas, who was orderly of Netaji Subhash Chander Bose.
Accompanied by his wife and NCP leaders, Randhir Singh visited village Bophar in tehsil Khour, just 6 km from the International border where Vidhya is living.
Vidhya Devi, is getting two pensions one from Indian Army and other from Japanese Government because her husband had served Azad Hind Fouj under Netaji Subhash Chander Bose. However, she was not getting pension regularly because of the callous attitude of local treasury office, Khour which was hardly two miles away.
.Late Rolhu Singh Manhas had joined Azad Hind Fouj at Singapore after his release from Japanese jail.
Mr Singh urged the Chief Minister that such old freedom fighters’ widows, who are hardly few in this State, should get monthly pension at their residence through Revenue Officer and particularly in case of Vidhya Devi who has crossed 107 years. It is sad that no minister, MLA and District level officer has approached this old lady Vidhya Devi wife of a great freedom fighter.
In her long conversation with Mr Singh, Vidhya Devi wished to visit her parental village Tungi, now in Pakistan. She spends her pension on her grandchildren. One of her granddaughter Neeru Manhas, is MPEd and qualified cricket coach and was captain of J&K U-19 cricket team while her grandson is M Com, BEd. However, both are unemployed and this is the plight of great freedom fighter’s family, living on international border.
