JAMMU, Dec 2: An interaction session was organized between Scientists and Gandhian scholars at IIIM, here today.
Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu, introduced the Gandhian Scholars to Prof Shannon B Olsson, a leading scientist National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr Vishwakarma, while talking on the challenge of creating societies based upon faith and affection especially in the context of conflict bound societies, appreciated the effort of every individual following the footsteps of ‘ Father of Nation’ towards building peaceful societies.
Later, Padamshree SP Varma, president Gandhi Global Family, and Dr Seema Rohmetra, local coordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation, acquainted Prof Shannon B Olsson and others of the activities and the programmes being carried by the two organizations across India and globe.
S P Varma honoured the dignitary with India UN pin for excelling in her respective field of research.
Prof Shannon B Olsson at NCBS is involved in setting up NICE: Naturalist Inspired Chemical Ecology, which offers a multidisciplinary approach spanning chemistry. She expressed her gratitude in becoming the recipient of the prestigious pin and further expressed the need for nonviolent peace initiatives in evolving sustainable developmental models at different levels.
While interacting, Dr Seema Rohmetra highlighted the significant role of Mahatma Gandhi as a natural scientist in curing the common problems.
Among others, who were present on the occasion, included; Prof Y S Bedi, R K Bhasin and Dr S C Chandra.
