JAMMU, Dec 2: Governor N.N. Vohra and Usha Vohra, visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO) here this afternoon for getting their Driving Licenses renewed.
The license renewal procedures were completed by the concerned staff in very good time. The Governor complimented Ashwani K. Khajuria RTO (Jammu) for efficiently managing his office, which is being visited by nearly 3000 persons every day.
The Governor suggested to the RTO and Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Secretary Transport and Parvaiz Iqbal Khateeb, Transport Commissioner, to consider linking renewal of personal and commercial driving licenses with the accident record of the licensee and if such record was adverse the legal provisions could be suitably amended for the competent authority to deny renewal of license.
While enquiring about the methodology being adopted while issuing during licenses, the Governor asked the officers of Transport Department to ensure that people obtain license after following all the laid down criteria so that chances of road accidents due to errors of the drivers are minimized to large extent.
