Bukhari reviews functioning of Law Deptt

JAMMU, Dec 4: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari chaired a meeting of the Law Department, here to review its functioning.
Secretary Law, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Additional Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, ALRs, Legal Assistants, SOs and other officials of the Law Department were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Minister took stock of functioning of various sections of the department and said that basic aim of the Law Department is to provide inexpensive and speedy justice to people at their door steps.
Highlighting its importance, the Minister said that Law Department is the backbone of the Government; therefore, it is important that all its dimensions are streamlined and definite procedures set in place. “The road to development and prosperity goes through the Law Department as it acts as a support system giving legal opinions and recommendations to all other Government departments”, he said.
On the occasion, Secretary Law also briefed the Minister regarding various issues of the department. The Minister asked Secretary Law to formulate a concept paper to highlight and bring forth various requirements and issues of the department and ways and means to address these. He also sought details on action taken on decisions in the earlier review meeting of the Law Department.
Referring to dearth of staff in the department, the Minister said that steps will be taken to fill up vacant positions wherever required.
The Minister also inquired about broader issues and problems of the officials. He was informed about various issues including pay anomalies, promotion avenues, space constraints etc. He assured them that all genuine issues will be considered on priority and also taken up with concerned quarters.
Meanwhile, Bukhari in a high level meeting took a review of court cases pertaining to the Home Department.
Principal Secretary, Home R K Goyal, Director General Police, K Rajendra, ADGP HQ, S P Vaid, Secretary Law, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, AIG (P) Tahir Bhat and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
During the meeting extensive discussion was held with regard to establishment and promotion cases of the department pending in various courts.
The Minister asked the concerned officers to expedite the overall process so that timely action could be taken on court cases and appeals could be filed within time so that timely justice could be achieved and interests of the State are safeguarded.
