Seminar on ‘Pahari Heritage of Jammu Region’ organized

JAMMU, Dec 4: Himalayan Heritage Foundation today organized a seminar in collaboration with State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari Speaking People on the theme ‘Pahari Heritage of Jammu Region’ to sensitize the stakeholders about the significance of their heritage.
Seminar was followed by an interactive session in which scholars, members of the civil society, students and officials of the various Advisory Boards took part.
While speaking on the occasion, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Vice chairman, State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari Speaking People, said that Pahari heritage and culture is a comprehensive way of life that includes rich traditions and assets in terms of both monuments and religious places. “Board is well aware of its responsibility to uphold the Pahari heritage of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and this seminar is the commencement of our mission to showcase this rich legacy and Board will leave no stone unturned to develop policy to safeguard it, he added.
Mahesh Kaul, chairman, Himalayan Heritage Foundation, said, that Pahari heritage of Jammu region is a complete repository of the human development that signifies its cultural evolution over the centuries. “The need is to integrate all the assets both tangible and intangible to develop a complete heritage circuit in the Pahari belt of Jammu.  The policies have to be made in such a way that these lay emphasis on community development and reduce the chances of conflict among the tourist managers and heritage experts,” he explained.
Vikrant Sharma, Chairman, Rashtriya Pahari Aandolan, Dr Suresh Kumar, member Pahari  Board,   Ajay Khosa, founder member of  Himalayan Heritage Foundation and  Dr Zakir Hussain, secretary Pahari Board, also spoke on the occasion.
