JAMMU: Blocked Jammu-Srinagar national highway was thrown open though only to clear stranded vehicles, a police official here  today said.

The highway was blocked during wee hours today  when landslide occurred at various locations near Ramban and fresh snowfall was experienced at  Jawahar Tunnel.

“The national highway closed this early morning due to  landslide and fresh snowfall,” Sanjay Kotwal, SSP national highway, here told  said.

Mr Kotwal said police along with Border Road Organisation men immediately pressed into  service while the highway was made through in the afternoon.

“No fresh  vehicle was allowed to move on the highway from both the sides but only stranded  vehicles were being cleared,” he asserted.

The SSP said weather was  still inclement in the region. However, chill gripped the winter capital  after mercury dipped due to a fresh spell of rains.  (AGENCIES)
