FIR against former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah

SITAMARHI, Bihar, Dec 12: An FIR has been filed against former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah with Dumra police station of the district over his recent remarks denigrating the Indian Army.

The FIR has been lodged against Mr Abdullah under section 156(3) of CrPC on the orders of Sitamarhi Chief Judicial Magistrate Ram Bihar who ordered on December 8 that the FIR be lodged against the National Conference leader following a petition in this connection by a local lawyer Thakur Chandan Kumar Singh.

In his petition on November 30, Mr Singh had sought action against the senior Abdullah for his alleged remarks that, “Even if the entire Indian Army comes (to Jammu and Kashmir), they cannot defend people against militants and terrorists.”

When contacted, Mr Singh said that he had moved the court since he considered Mr Abdullah?s remarks at a seminar on India-Pakistan ties was tantamount to denigrating the Indian Army and the nation as well. He denied that he had said Pakistan-occupied Kashmir will remain with Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir will remain in India in his petition and said that he had filed the case over Mr Abdullah?s remark against the Indian Army.
