JAMMU, Dec 12: In a sex scandal, which was recently unearthed by a girl hailing from Akhnoor took a turn today, when the family members and relatives of arrested persons accompanied by people held protest at Nirdosh Chowk, Akhnoor.
The protesters blocked the vehicular movement on Jammu-Poonch Highway for sometime leading to traffic snarls. They raised slogans against the Police Department and claimed that their kin have been falsely implicated in the case. They were demanding immediate arrest of the persons arrested in the case.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and cleared the vehicular movement. They also held negotiations with the protesters in the office of SDM Akhnoor, wherein higher officials of the Police Department assured the people that no one will be harassed unnecessarily. The police officials also assured the people that arrest will be made purely on girl’s version and not selectively.
On the assurance from the police officials, the protesters dispersed.
As per the case, on December 10, police arrested five persons including utensil and mommo sellers for exploiting a minor girl of Pacca Danga, Akhnoor for sex. The arrests were made after a minor girl of Surinder Kumar of Pacca Danga, Akhnoor revealed the names of the persons, who sexually abused her.
When contacted SP Rural Rajeev Pandey said that protesters were pacified with the assurance that the people will be arrested on girl’s statement and no one will be harassed unnecessarily. He added that five persons were arrested on girl’s version.
Apart from arrested five persons, more persons are on the cards of police and manhunt is going on nab them, Mr Pandey maintained.
