SRINAGAR, Dec 12:  A residential barrack was completely gutted in a major blaze at Kashmir University’s Hazratbal campus this morning.
The varsity chief proctor, Nasir Iqbal, told Excelsior that the fire erupted at 8:50 am from the barrack housed by the three families of non-teaching staff of the University from Naseem Bagh side.
“The barrack was completely gutted within five to seven minutes as it was 100 percent made up of wood. Seven fire tenders arrived to douse the blaze and after 40 minutes they controlled it,” he said. The black flames were visible from distance.
Iqbal said there was no loss of life or injury to anyone and there was miraculous escape for the family members of the non-teaching staff. “Fortunately we managed to evacuate the kids who were sleeping in the barrack,” he said, adding that the exact cause of fire is not known to them yet. “It could be due to short circuit. We don’t know as of now exactly what caused the fire,” he added.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said here that two structures were damaged in two other separate fire incidents here in city. The fire incidents broke out in the residential houses at Zaindar Mohalla and Buchwara areas. However, there was no loss of life or injury to anyone, he added.
