PCC kick starts campaign for ULB polls

JAMMU, Dec 13:  While kick-starting its campaign for the forthcoming elections to the Urban Local Bodies in the State, the Congress Party today received a shot in the  arm as during a large rally at Muthi in Raipur- Domana Assembly segment, a prominent Gujjar leader from Poonch, Abdul Gani, who had secured over 18,000 votes during previous Assembly elections joined the party with his supporters.
Basically it is large blow to the National Conference as Ch Abdul Gani was very strong pillar of that party and he was aspirant to contest elections on NC ticket from Poonch. As the party had preferred Ajaz Jan (Ex-MLA) over him, he left the party and contested as an Independent candidate and became the major cause of the defeat of  NC candidate.
PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir alongwith many senior leaders of the party besides legislators  accorded warm welcome to Abdul Gani in the party fold at the rally, organised by former minister Mula Ram here.
Addressing workers, PCC chief said that the poll promises of BJP and PDP have proved to be mere bluffs and people are fed up with the policies and sheer opportunism of two parties. Both the parties exploited people of their respective constituencies with false and deceptive promises. The people could not see through their tactical game plan and gave BJP an unprecedented strength in Jammu while PDP gained on these slogans in Kashmir. Both parties took a complete U-turn on their respective positions and promises to the people made during elections, as a result the people feel betrayed and cheated. The people want to teach both the parties a lesson for having taken their sentiments and emotions for a ride, in order to enter the corridors of power.
Mir said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi spread falsehood about the Congress party and UPA but soon the people in different parts have felt that the elections slogans were coined as mere ‘Jumlas’ and the BJP Government has failed to fulfill even a single promise. Instead of ‘Achhe Din’, people now want return of old days, as the prices of all essential commodities have been touching the record highest rates so far and Government has utterly failed to provide the ration as per old scales to each family as per 2001 censes.
Senior Congress leaders Madan Lal Sharma ( Ex-MP) while welcoming  Ch Abdul Gani into the party, appreciated the efforts of the PCC leadership to make the party vibrant in all parts of the State during the past few months. He also expressed satisfaction that the ongoing membership drive of the party has got tremendous response despite being in opposition.
Sham Lal Sharma (ex-Minister)  lashed out at BJP for its total surrender on the core issues, which it used to exploit the people of Jammu region all though these years, like Article 370, citizenship to West Pakistan refugees, philosophy of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and all other issues of people of Jammu region. He said that it has exposed BJP’s double standards for power, while PDP leadership is making contradictory statements on vital issues concerning the State. Former ministers Mula Ram and G M Saroori also spoke on the occasion.
Ch Mohd Akram –MLA, Asgar Karbalai-MLA,  senior leaders Shabir Khan, Ch Shah Mohd, Ch Shah Nawaz, SS Channi, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath, Rajnish Sharma, MK Bhardwaj, Maheshwar Singh, Shiv Dev Singh, Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Shashi Sharma, SS Chib, Indu Pawar,  Uma Shanker Pandey, Udhey Singh Chib, Shiv Kumar Sharma (INTUC), Pranav Shagotra (PYC), Neeraj Kundan (NSUI), Ashwani Puri, Pawan Singh, Neeraj Gupta and Choudhary Masood were prominent among those who attended the rally.
