I am to refer DE news item regarding meeting of Union leaders of Commercial Taxes Department who submitted a memorandum of demands to the concerned Commissioner. One of the major points was about very low pay scale of Sub Inspector cadre of Excise and Commercial Taxes wings of Finance Department. All of us know that there are twenty four hours working employees and get very less pay than a Police Sub-Inspector. Natural justice demands equal pay for equal ranks. It is to note that Finance Department makes pay scale of all employees and this is quite ironical that its own employees are getting less pay. In fact, these basic units who collect crores of tax and revenue should be placed in much better grades but at least equal grades with Police Sub-Inspectors. Besides, two and half day extra salary be also sanctioned in their favour. DPC and other demands may also be considered to bring better working conditions in this cadre.
