Tension erupts in Kishtwar on rumours of sacrilegious act

JAMMU, Dec 16: A day after a temple and two houses of minorities were burnt near Mughal Maidaan in Chatru area of Kishtwar district, tension again flared up in the sensitive town with rumours flying high about sacrilegious act having been committed in the town.
However, police denied that there was no sacrilegious act and only rumours had been spread.
DIG Doda-Ramban range Nissar Ahmad said the rumours spread this morning that a sacrilegious act has been committed at village Hatta in Kishtwar. Immediately after the incident, police teams rushed to the spot while the people of minority community held massive demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar demanding stern action against those responsible for fire and sacrilegious incidents.
However, police later informed the people that there was no sacrilegious incident reported at Hatta and reports to this effect were rumours.
Minorities, however, kept their shutters down and observed bandh in Kishtwar town.
The DIG said the situation was peaceful and normal. He said police was maintaining strict vigil on the situation.
