Srinagar, Dec 18: A group of 3-4 militants last night slipped out of Army cordon in North Kashmir’s Kupwara forests after a brief gun battle.
Army’s 47 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police last evening trapped a group of 3-4 militants in Kandi Gujjarpati forests of Kupwara.
Army and police launched an operation in Gujjarpati forests after they got a tip off about presence of a group of militants in the forest area.
The militants present in the area opened fire on the troops leading to a fierce gun battle which lasted for about 15 minutes. More troops were rushed to the area and cordon in the forest area has been tightened to prevent militants from fleeing.
But in the morning when the security forces launched an operation to trace out these militants, they had fled from the area. Army conducted searches in the area but the militants were not found.
