Eradicate practice of open defecation: Sukhnandan

JAMMU, Dec 19: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar today distributed cheques among the beneficiaries from Haripur, Sum, Mandal, Sohanjana and Parladhpur for the construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan at the office of Block Development Officer, Mandal Phallian.
The Minister said that the objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan is to cover all houses in rural as well as urban areas with toilets, eliminate manual scavenging, eradicate the practice of open defecation, clean environment and improve quality of life in rural areas. He directed the BDO to immediately take up construction of shed of cremation ground in the area.
Meanwhile, the Minister inaugurated lane and drain at village Top Manhasa in Mandal Phallian.
The people of the village demanded separate transformers for two different parts of the village including Jazal and Tawi area. The Minister directed the officers to install a transformer at Jazal in Top Manhasa village for the augmenting power supply for agricultural purposes and assured them that another transformer would also be provided for improving power scenario in the village.
The Minister said that overall development of the State is the commitment of the Government and top priority is given to water supply, road connectivity, electricity supply and other basic amenities.
