Sahitya Akademi awards

Two litterateurs from the State figure in this year’s Sahitya Akademi award winners. They are the Dogri writer Dhiyan Singh and Kashmiri writer Bashir Bhaderwahi. We congratulate them for winning a prestigious award and doing honour to the State. The award is actually recognition by the society of their service to the cultural fund of the country and the State, expressed through the channel called Sahitya Akademi. Our nation is multi-lingual and all languages receive equal treatment and importance from the State. That makes the Sahitya Akademi empowered to cater to the development of literature in all languages spoken and written in our country. Nothing could be a stronger proof of our culture of democratic approach to all facets of Indian civilization. Our State, too, is a mosaic of cultures, languages and religions. The State Cultural Akademi carries forward the task of bringing about cohesion among the people of the State as does the Sahitya Akademi. The most conspicuous, and healthy thing about awarding genuine litterateurs is that the award is for no consideration other than pure literary.
