SAMBA, Dec 21: A high level Central team from the Union Health Ministry today inspected two proposed sites in Samba for setting up here an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The team members, including Rakesh Kumar, Joint Secretary from the Union Health Ministry; Sandeep Srivastav, Director PMSSY and Rajeev Kanaujia, Senior Architect, along with Sheetal Nanda, Deputy Commissioner and other district officers, visited the proposed sites at Vijaypur and Ghagwal.
The team visited Rakh Barotiayan area of Vijaypur as well as Sandhi village of Ghagwal in Samba district and looked into the possibilities of setting up AIIMS on the proposed site.
According to the sources, the visiting team sought some clarifications vis-à-vis a check list with them, in respect of source of water supply and electricity at the proposed sites, distance from the Airport, Railway Station, National Highway, existing Medical College etc.
The visiting team is scheduled to hold a meeting with the J&K Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh at Jammu tomorrow morning before going back to New Delhi. A report on the assigned task would be submitted by this team to the higher authorities for a final decision on selection of land for setting up AIIMS here, sources said.
