NEW DELHI, Dec 25: On the occasion of  “Sushasan Divas” (Good Governance Day), to mark the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh today formally launched ‘Single Page Form’ as a new innovative reform to simplify governance and make it more citizen friendly.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, as we observe Vajpayee’s birthday as “Sushashan Diwas”, can there be a better compliment to this great leader’s sensitivity towards citizens than to dedicate ourselves to make public services easier and push forward the shift from administration to governance. He said, the introduction of “Single Page Form” facility will eliminate the need to fill up lengthy forms running into several pages and requiring cumbersome, complicated and voluminous information, sometimes repeatedly.
Time has come, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, when we have to learn to trust the youth of this country and make the governance youth-centric. The question therefore, is, why can’t we have simpler forms seeking minimal and only essential information without the requirement to enclose affidavits and attested documents. Just as the Modi Government has done away with the practice of getting the documents attested, from today onwards, let the message go out that we have done away with the practice of spending hours and hours together just to gather information and fill in the forms, he said.
Dr. Jitendra Singh claimed that this bold and path-breaking initiative will enable every citizen to access Government schemes and other Government facilities more conveniently and comfortably.  The convenience of the beneficiaries and the citizens should prevail over the convenience of all the Government Departments administering a scheme or holding interviews for jobs, he added. The aim of the today’s launch would be to make the forms as simple and small as possibly, that is, just a single A4 size page and that is all, he said.
The introduction of ‘Single Page Form’ coupled with the announcement already having been made to abolish interviews for recruitment to junior posts in Central Services from 1st January, will strike an optimistic note as the country steps into 2016, said Dr Jitendra Singh and added that the State Governments are are also being persuaded to expeditiously emulate these progressive reforms.
Union Secretary DoPT, Sanjay Kothari was also present on the occasion.
