JAMMU, Dec 28: An Awareness camp on Social Security Schemes was organized by the Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner, Jammu, Zahoor Ahmed at Rail Head Complex, Jammu.
The camp was inaugurated by Darshan Kumar Sharma, Chief Accounts Officer.
The main objective of the camp was to bring awareness among the labour class/subscribers regarding the Social Security Schemes being run under the J&K Employees Provident Fund Act-1961.
A large number of representatives of labour unions, employers and workers participated in the camp.
While highlighting the Social Security Schemes under EPF Act-1961, Zahoor Ahmed explained that presently two schemes are being run under EPF Act i.e. EPF Scheme and EDLI.
He stated that under EPF Scheme, a worker contributes 12 per cent of his wages while the employer contributes matching share of contribution in favour of the worker which is deposited on monthly basis in the PF Office. The worker also gets compound interest of 8.5 per cent per annum on his total PF accumulations.
He added that under EDLI Scheme, nominees get insurance cover of Rs 75,000 based on the contributions of the deceased member.
Zahoor Ahmed further informed that without awareness, the benefits of such schemes could not reach the labour class. He also informed that in the near future, the Organization is going to launch online submission of PF returns also.
The representatives of labour unions stressed to hold such awareness camps in future also so that the benefits of Social Security Schemes could reach the beneficiaries.
