JAMMU, Dec 29: All J&K Transport Welfare Association (JKTWA) today held a meeting under the chairmanship of S TS Wazir, chairman of the association, to discuss demands of the transporters.
The meeting expressed strong resentment over imposition of blanket ban on the issuance of temporary permission to all passenger vehicles of J&K which are carrying pilgrims from one to another holy station.
The association alleged that according to Motor Vehicle Act 1987 the temporary permission are allowed to all passenger vehicles for carrying pilgrims for social, cultural and emergency services   but adopting anti-transporter policies Transport Commissioner of the State has banned this permission.
The speakers said that transporters as well as pilgrims of the State are suffering due to this ban while the vehicles of other States are operating without any proper permission from the State Government. They alleged that the Transport Commissioner wants to crush the local transporters.
The meeting further criticized the State Transport Department for not renewing national permit of commercial vehicles for last 45 days and alleged that there is no proper working system in the office of Transport Commissioner as well as in the office of RTO Jammu.
The association appealed the Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed to intervene into the matter to provide justice to the local transporters, who are now left with no option except resorting to the path of agitation.
