BJP threatens to expel Azad, issues showcause

NEW DELHI, Dec 31: Keeping its tough stance, BJP today issued a fresh showcause notice to its suspended Darbhanga MP Kirti Azad asking him to explain why he should not be expelled for indulging in anti-party activity.

He has been given 10 days to reply to the notice, sources said. Mr Azad, who was suspended from the party for raising a banner against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for the alleged irregularities in DDCA, has been asked to explain his comments being made against senior party leaders, they said. The purported irregularities did not find mention in the showcause notice, which mainly said to be focused on the former cricketer’s anti-party activities.

Immediately after being suspended, Mr Azad has questioned the basis on which the party acted against him, saying that he had been raising the issue of DDCA since 2008. He even had attracted the sympathies of Party veterans, who held a meeting at the residence of senior Party leader Murali Manohar Joshi.

Today’s notice issued to Mr Azad, is said to be reflective of party’s resolve not to allow any rebellion to brew in its ranks. (UNI)
