Governor briefed about development works by Shrine Board in Katra town

JAMMU, Jan 1: The Gover-nor N N Vohra has directed CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to identify required development works in Katra and send him up proposals with cost estimates, by January 7.
The direction was issued during the Governor’s meeting with CEO Ajeet Kumar Sahu and Addl CEO, B Mohandass, who briefed the former about the development work done by the Shrine Board in holy town Katra during the past 11 months.
Pertinent to mention that Addl CEO B Mohandass has been holding the additional charge of Administrator Municipal Committee Katra since February 2015, as per State Government Housing and UDD’s decision.
After taking over charge as Administrator, Mohandass took up the task of streamlining the functions of Katra Municipal Committee, particularly those relating to the general sanitation, development, generation of revenue, issuance of Building Permissions, removal of encroachments and regulation of illegal hawkers. He also made efforts to draw up an adequately detailed development plan for approval of the higher authorities and exercised close monitoring for ensuring economic utilization of the available funds.
Initially, the Chairman Shrine Board had approved expenditure being incurred for taking up various works in Katra Municipal Committee, including civil works such as repair and renovation of badly affected drain/nallah, lanes, roads and footpaths, procurement of vehicles for lifting of garbage, dustbins, water coolers, garden benches, street lights etc. In addition to the above a separate greening scheme was also executed.
The Governor was informed that the Addl CEO took up construction of 700 rft deep drain with cross drainage and RCC slab cover at Bus Stand Katra, face-lifting of the footpath from Taxi Stand towards Banganga, repair of existing lane and drains near Yatra Parchi Counter, black topping of road at Fountain Chowk /Jewel Restaurant etc.
