UDHAMPUR, Jan 5: Villagers of Basani, near Tikri, today staged a protest demonstration against Municipal Council Udhampur for identifying a site nearby their village for garbage dumping.
The protesting villagers raised slogans against Municipal Council Udhampur and demanded review of the decision on site selection.
The area selected by Municipal Council for garbage dumping is adjoining populated area of Basani and consists a natural spring, the water of which is used for drinking and household purpose by the entire village, said Balbir Singh, who was leading the protest.
Dumping of garbage at the identified site will pollute the environment of Basani village and creates so many health related problems, he added and appealed the administration to look into the matter for review of the site selection.
Krishan Singh and Arjun Singh also addressed the protest demonstration.
