State Mission Authority

By giving nod to the constitution of State Mission Authority, the State Government would give more credibility to the concept of gender equality in the State. Women in our State have remained backward for long. Spread of education and enlightenment came to them very late. It was only after the country became free that the need to empower womenfolk was felt at national level but the National Mission for Empowerment of Women was constituted belatedly in 2010. The State Mission Authority will work for the empowerment of women socially, economically and educationally, and strengthen the purposes that promote all round development of womenfolk through coordination as well as convergence of schemes and programmes of various departments. Essentially its task is twofold, viz. to bring about all round empowerment to women, and to protect their rights and save them from domination through gender discrimination.
The Mission will provide a single window service for all programmes run by the Government for women under various Ministries and departments. It will also act as a repository of knowledge, information, research and data on all gender related issues. Since the Chief Minister will be its chairman, the Mission is expected to bring about considerable improvement in the lot of womenfolk of the State. Their talent needs to be given exposure and their role in building a new society has to be promoted. This is a welcome decision on the part of the Government as it is going to generate an atmosphere of cooperation and coordination among all sections of society.
