JAMMU, Jan 10: In order to educate their communities about the reservation rights, the people of reserved categories under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Reserve Categories Employees Association (JKRCEA) organized one day conference on “Reservation” today at Guru Ravi Dass Mandir, R S Pura, which was attended by noted scholars, officers,  Sarpanches & socio-religious activists of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
Dr Sanjay Bhasin, President of JKRCEA was the chief guest and Prof Garu Ram Bhagat, Ex-MLA R S Pura, was Guest of honour.
Dr Sanjay Bhasin while delivering his presidential address, said that the reservation was constitutionally granted to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes with the objective to provide the equality of status and social justice to these marginalized classes but the most unfortunate part of giving reservation has become a tool in the hands of political players of the successive regimes both at Centre and J&K State as well.
Expressing his serious concern for paying no heed to the onset of critical situation due to striking down of the reservation in promotion by the J&K High Court, he appealed the Govt. of the time to respect the faith of these communities, which they have built by giving the mandate to them. “In case of letting down of the reservation right of these communities, this would not only cause an irreparable loss to the employees of reserved categories, but the hopes of more than 60% population from the Government will be belied”, said Dr Bhasin.
Prof Garu Ram Bhagat, Ex-MLA, while speaking on the occasion said that in order to protect reservation, all the groups of reserved categories cutting across their social affiliation would jointly fight. He also said that JKRCEA has taken a lead in uniting all the employees, non-employees, socio-religious hence they will extend full support to this group in fighting for a common cause.
Dr Zabeer Ahmed, general secretary of JKRCEA while deliberating on the subject said that this has happened first time in the history that the people of all reserved categories have joined on a single platform to launch the struggle for protecting reservation. He also told the delegates that this movement would not only work for reservation in recruitment and promotion but surely this group would become a watch dog of their constitutional rights of equality and social justice.
