JAMMU, Jan 14: The 27th Road Safety Week was observed across the State.
As a part of observance of 27th Road Safety Week, Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with Traffic Police, transporters and other stakeholders organized a medical health awareness camp for the drivers and conductors at Taxi Stand, Railway Station, Jammu today. MLA Basohli Choudhary Lal Singh was the chief guest while MLC, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa was guest of honour on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Lal Singh urged the stakeholders, civil society especially youth and other agencies to rededicate their efforts to ensure safety of people besides restricting fatal road accidents. He urged for adherence strictly to the traffic rules for smooth flow of traffic and ensuring safety of people besides restricting road accidents. MLC Charanjeet Singh in his address emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate information about the safety among the public and the motor vehicle users especially youth. RTO Jammu Ashwani Khajuria elaborated over the importance of Road Safety Week and the activities being organized by the department during the week. On the occasion, free medical camps were organized by Directorate of Indian System of Medicines, Red Cross and Civil Defence in which large number of drivers and conductors were examined by doctors and were provided free medicines. IGP Traffic Vipan Chowdhary, SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal, SSP Railways, Suram Singh, ARTO (BOI) Swarn Singh, representatives of Automobile and Transport Associations, volunteers from Civil Defense, NCC, Red Cross, MVD Inspectors, , drivers, conductors besides prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
SRINAGAR: To disseminate information on traffic rules, a function was held today as a part of ‘Road Safety Week’ in Srinagar. The programme was organized by J&K Motor Vehicles Department and Traffic Police Srinagar in which representatives of transport organizations participated. Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Farooq Rather, SSP Traffic Police Srinagar Maqsood-ul-Zamaan and Director Tourism Mahmood Ahmad Shah flagged off a colourful motor car rally from Zabarwan park on the banks of Dal Lake to Civil Secretariat. On the occasion, City Traffic Police unveiled measures to take action against violators, implementing and enforcing the traffic rules strictly. Later certificates were distributed among the motor car rally participants.
RAMBAN: In continuation to the celebration of 27th Road Safety Week 2016, a medical camp was organized by Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with Rashtriya Rifle Delta Force, Traffic Police and Health Department. District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Bashir Ahmed Dar inaugurated the free medical camp which was attended by ARTO, Shami Kumar, DySP Traffic Kameshwar Puri, Doctors, Army officers, para-medical staff and driver community also. Around 360 patients from Ramban and adjoining villages of Maitra and Govindpura availed the facilities of the medical camp other than the drivers.
KATHUA: Motor Vehicle Department under the aegis of RTO Kathua Amarjeet Singh organized a medical camp-cum-awareness programme to observe Road Safety Week in collaboration with ISM (AYUSH) Kathua. On the occasion, banners and posters on use of helmets, seat belts, avoiding over- speeding and use of mobile phones during driving and others safety measures to be taken on road were displayed. During the programme, a free medical checkup of over 250 drivers/conductors was conducted by the team of Medical Officers of AYUSH Kathua under the supervision of ADMO Kathua Bikram Singh Jamwal. Free medicines were also distributed. A team of eye specialist from District Hospital Kathua also conducted free eye check up. A demonstration for first responder by volunteers of Red Cross team headed by Executive Secretary Red Cross Kathua Ashish Singh was also held for the drivers and conductors. ARTO Kathua, Yaseer Arafat, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Bodh Paul, Dr Yash Paul, President Kathua Truck Union, besides many others shared their experiences.
UDHAMPUR: In continuation to 27th Road Safety Week celebrations, a free medical-cum-road safety awareness camp for drivers and conductors was organized by Motor Vehicle Department Udhampur in collaboration with Health Department in the premises of Assistant Regional Transport Office Complex, here. Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Dr Chander Parkash was the chief guest, who inaugurated the camp in presence of Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Bodh Raj, ARTO Rajesh Gupta and DSP Traffic Tilak Rana. Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence, Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal conducted the proceeding of the programme.
ANANTNAG: To create public awareness about the importance of traffic rules, ADC Anantnag, Sheikh Ghulam Hassan flagged off the Traffic Week from Government Degree College, Anantnag. The week-long campaign was flagged off by a convoy of cars by ADC Anantnag, in presence of officers of traffic police, district administration and representatives of driving institutions, auto unions, automobile dealers which after passing through different areas of the district culminated at the starting point.
DODA: To observe 27th National Road Safety Week, an awareness programme was organized by Motor Vehicle Department in coordination with Traffic Police in Town Hall here. ADC Doda, Hanief Malik, SSP Doda ZN Manhas and DySP Traffic Farooq Khan during the interaction with the drivers, told them to understand their responsibility in the society and avoid various violations on road that may cause accidents and loss of precious lives.
REASI: To observe 27th National Road Safety Week, Motor Vehicle Department organized free medical camp in collaboration with Health Department. 237 drivers and conductors of the commercial vehicles were examined during the camp and free medicines were provided to them. ARTO Reasi said that tomorrow a motorbike rally will be organized and on January 16, a rally of school children will be flagged off.
