Smugglers’ attack leaves 3 Forest Deptt employees injured

Srinagar, Jan 15: Three employees of Forest Department were injured in an attack by firewood smugglers in Karewa-Zawoora woods of South Kashmir’s Shopian district last night.
Reports said that a team of Forest officials received information about the movement of firewood smugglers at Karewa-Zawoora and they immediately rushed to the area.
The smugglers, who were readying to take away the stacked firewood, were surrounded by Forest officials and directed to surrender. However the smugglers attacked them with axes and stones, leaving three officials injured and one vehicle damaged.
The injured forest officials have been identified as Muhammad Shafi, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Shabir Ahmad. Despite murderous assault, the officials managed to seize large quantity of firewood and also nabbed one of the smugglers identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan.
