REASI, Jan 15: Acting swiftly, the Forest Department in assistance with Police, has foiled an attempt to encroach upon forest land measuring about two Marlas, falling in Forest Compartment No. 19/R of Reasi Forest Division alongside a PMGSY road at Lamsoora, Bakkal of Tehsil and District Reasi.
On receiving information regarding attempt being made by some unscrupulous elements at Lamsoora with the nefarious intention of erecting a structure (Kiosk) along the roadside in Forest Compartment 19/R, a team of Forest officials, immediately swung into action and reached the spot. The structure being erected by one Uttam Singh son of Gandharv Singh of Lamsoora over an area of approximately 400 Sqft, was completely smashed down and the Forest land was retrieved back.
The team of Reasi Forest Range, which conducted the operation, was led by Range Officer Reasi, Rakesh Sharma and Block Officer Prabhu Dayal.
The encroachers on seeing Forest and Police parties, fled from the spot. Proceedings under relevant sections of J&K Forest Act are being initiated against the culprit.
The whole operation was successfully carried out under the close supervision of the Divisional Forest Officer Reasi, Dr Jitendra Kr Singh and closely monitored by Conservator of Forests, West Circle, Sameer Bharti Gupta.
Worthwhile to mention that the Forest Department in its continuous and vigorous drive against the Forest encroachers in the recent past, has achieved success in its endeavor and approximately 460 kanals of old encroached Forest land as well as approximately 500 Kanals of Forest land, stood retrieved by Reasi Forest Division alone by thwarting the attempts made by encroachers.
