SRINAGAR, Sept 7: Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yasin Malik was detained in Srinagar along with several leaders and activists of the outfit during a protest rally at Lal Chowk area here this afternoon.
Malik along with around 20 separatists, mostly of JKLF, were detained after they carried out a protest march in the Srinagar city centre.
The JKLF chairman led the rally from its Maisuma headquarters after Friday prayers but they were intercepted by police in Budshah Chowk near city Centre Lal Chowk. Police detained Malik and other leaders of the outfit for violating Section 144 imposed in Srinagar city by District Magistrate.
The JKLF protest rally was organised to ask India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the State.
“It will be a historic blunder if Kashmir issue is ignored by the two countries in the Foreign Secretary level talks scheduled in Islamabad. Jammu and Kashmir issue needs to be resolved on priority for everlasting peace in the region,” said Malik.
