Srinagar, Jan 16: Several woman protesters were injured after police used force against anti-Power Develo-pment Department protesters at Brein locality of Nishat area on the outskirts of summer capital.
Scores of residents, mostly woman, took to streets at Brein and staged protest against PDD over installing insulated power lines in the area to prevent power-pilferage.
As the protest grew strong, the police rushed to the spot and urged protesters to disperse but the latter refused after which cops resorted to baton charge and teargas shelling, triggering clashes between two sides.
Reports said the police action left several women injured while one of them was shifted to hospital for treatment. The situation in the area was tense when reports last came in while a large contingent of police was deployed in the area to maintain order.
