JAMMU, Jan 18: Excise Department imposed Rs 89,000 fine on tax evaders and destroyed four tonnes and 45 bottles of illicit liquor in Samba and Kathua districts.
As per official spokesperson, in order to curb the menace of illicit distillation and smuggling of illicit liquor and toll tax evasion, J&K Excise Department intensified raids and checking of various locations and premises by laying nakas on various roads. Various teams were constituted to make these raids and surprised inspections.
During the process, nakas were laid on various areas on Jammu-Kathua National Highway to check toll evasion and smuggling of illicit liquor.
The nakas were laid by Excise teams under the supervision of ETOs of Excise Range South Jammu, Eradication and Enforcement Wing Jammu, Excise Range North Jammu and Excise Ranger Kathua.
On account of toll evasion, an amount of Rs 89,000 has been recovered as fine from the defaulters.
Apart from this, twelve raids were conducted in different areas of Kathua and Samba districts including Veersochak, Chak Drab Khan, Ramgarh and other adjoining areas to arrest the persons indulging in illicit distillation of liquor.
In the process, more than 4 tonnes of illicit liquor were destroyed in the Kathua and Samba districts. 45 bottles of illicit liquor were also destroyed.
