JAMMU, Jan 21: Nowshera and Jhangar are synonymous of ultimate valour, supreme sacrifice, passionate love for motherland and beacon of inspiration in the history of Independent India.
They epitomize gallantry of highest order and immense bonding between Indian Army and civil population to work together for safeguarding the territorial integrity and national interest of the country.
In 1947, when Pakistan raiders supported by regular Army invaded J&K and captured large portion of territory to include Jhangar, the Indian Army duly supported by locals fought valiantly to thwart their nefarious design and evict them from our motherland. The saga of valour and supreme sacrifices continues to guide and motivate generations forever. This is the land of brave hearts like Naik Jadhunath Singh, Param Vir Chakra, 2nd Lieutenant RR Rane, Param Vir Chakra, Lieutenant Colonel Inderjeet Butalia, Maha Vir Chakra Major Rama Swamy, Maha Vir Chakra whose love for motherland was immense and they nurtured it with their blood.
The local of the regions including Bal Sainiks played a major role to maintain the integrity of the Nation by fighting along with Indian Army.
In the remembrance of these gallant soldiers and the local’s contribution, 06 February is celebrated as Nowshera Day. In this first edition of Brave-hearts of Nowshera, Army will refresh the saga of Naik Jadhunath Singh and fondly remember his valour.
Naik Jadhunath Singh was born in a small village in district Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Young and brave Jadhunath was passionate about army. During the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War Naik Jadunath Singh was deployed with his battalion 1 RAJPUT in Nowshera sector. Naik Jadhunath along with 27 soldiers was deployed at Tain-Dhar. On 06 February 1948 about 3000 Pakistani raiders attacked Tain-Dhar. He and his companions repulsed three major attacks in which 24 soldiers laid their life for the motherland. Falling short of ammunition Naik Jadhunath Singh charged on the enemy with his rifle butt and was seriously injured. Unmindful of his personal safety, he continued his fierce charge thereby forcing the enemy to flee in utter disorder. In the process he succumbed to his injuries but not before saving the day for Nowshera. For the exemplary gallantry beyond the call of duty, he is known as ‘Saviour of Nowshera’ and was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his gallant action and supreme sacrifice.
