60 meritorious girl students to get scholarship, free education

UDHAMPUR, Jan 24: District Administration, Udhampur, in an endeavor to promote girl education and extend assistance to families of outstanding girl students, has initiated a Scholarship and Education Scheme for rewarding 30 girls each in Class X and Class XII who rank highest in the merit in district.
Thirty topper girl students of Class X , with 15 each from Government and Private Educational institutions will be provided a merit certificate, scholarship, free books and uniform, free tuition and coaching, and other assistance required for their studies in Higher Secondary. Similarly, 30 topping girl students will get similar scholarship, assistance and free education and skill development courses during their college education. The District Administration will also provide free hostel facility to 15 girl students of Government schools while getting admission in Degree Colleges.
A number of initiatives have been launched by the administration aimed at saving the girl child and promoting their education, skill development and employment. A series of events are being organised with mass participation in the district to spread the message of “Save the Girl Child” and “Beti Bachao; Beti Padhao”. Various departments, banks, NGOs and other organisations have been roped in for supporting the project aimed at improving the education about girls in the society.
The Scheme “Adopt a Girl Child for Education” was launched on the occasion of National Girl Child Day celebrated at Udhampur today. District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary informed about the scheme of scholarship and education for meritorious girl students which will be implemented from current year and hoped that forthcoming examinations of Class X and Class XII will witness a greater competition of girl students to avail these prestigious scholarships. He added that special focus will be laid on weaker sections and marginalized groups in view of poor girl education.
District Udhampur has a gender ratio of 870 females per thousand males which is far less than national average which stands at 943 in 2016. To address this concern the district administration has launched a multi-pronged programme through coordination of different departments and organisations and a number of steps are being taken for education and welfare of girl students.
