2 drug peddlers, bootlegger held

Srinagar, Jan 24: Police today said it have arrested two drug peddlers including a non-local and a bootlegger in Valley and recovered drugs and liquor from their possession.
A police spokesman said police acting on a tip-off intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03D-8091 along National Highway near Omah Crossing in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. “On its checking, police recovered 4 kilograms of Fukki,” he said, adding: “a man identified as Hanas Raj of Fethepora Jalander (Punjab) who was carrying this Fukki has been taken under custody.
“A case under FIR number 18/2016 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered against him in Police Station Qazigund and further investigation is going on,” the spokesman added.
The spokesman said in another raid, police apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir and recovered psychotropic substance (morphine) from his possession in Handwara area of Kupwara district. “Bilal Ahmad, a shopkeeper at Handwara, was supplying drugs among the youth in north Kashmir particularly in Handwara area,” the spokesman added.
He said police in Nowgam village of Bandipora district arrested a bootlegger identified as Mohammad Abdullah Ganai and recovered 12 bottles of liquor for his possession. “Police have registered a case in this regard,” the spokesman said.
