Concern over bad condition of Kishtwar Highway

JAMMU, Jan 29: Congress leader Shamsher Singh Bhandari has expressed concern that no headway has been made in construction of a parallel Highway to Kishtwar from Batote in view of the present Highway whose condition is very bad and which has caved in at various places.
In a statement issued here today he said that the Highway ahs become a death trap due as the number of accidents are on increase on it and despite the repeated pleas to the Government they have failed to take a decision regarding construction of parallel Highway to the area. He also demanded handing over the Batote- Kishtwar road to national agency as the PWD is not in a position to maintain the road.
Mr Bhandari while expressing concern over the delaying tactics of the Government in widening the Batote-Kishtwar Highway and other roads said the area has been totally neglected.
Besides, the condition of other roads in the district is also bad and many areas even san the road link in this modern time.
The other important issues raised by Bhandari and his team included the starting the work on Rattle Power Project which has abandoned over two years back and led to the problems of many unemployed youth of the district.
