JAMMU, Feb 9: Education is not all about studying and getting good marks. It is really a means to discover new things about which we don’t know and also increase our knowledge.
This was the observation of Ch Sukhnandan Kumar former Minister and MLA Marh while inaugurating two additional class rooms and allied infrastructure and toilet block for upgraded Government High School Chakrali under RMSA at the cost of Rs 35 lakh.
He said an educated person has the ability to differentiate between right and wrong or good and evil. It is the foremost responsibility of a society to educate its citizens. A person becomes perfect with education as he is not only gaining something from it, but also contributing to the growth of a nation, he added.
The MLA while focusing on women’s education said the knowledge and empowerment of one woman can bring about a change in a family and even the society as a whole. “It is the ignorance that some  people think women are not entitled to education,. We should realise the importance of education and must ensure that each citizen of our nation is educated and independent”, he added.
Quoting Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan he said, “the aim of education is no the acquisition of information, although important, or acquisition of technical skills, though essential in modern society, but the development of that bent of mind, that attitude of reason, that spirit of democracy which will make us responsible citizens.” Indeed, a comprehensive education system would help shape the younger generation into one that has a sound ethical base and a strong sense of social responsibility, he added.
Ch Sukhnandan said culture and education are inseparable and yet complementary with multiple points of interaction. Culture paves the way for education while education is responsible for flourishing the cultural values in life. Therefore, both have to be interwoven in various ways, he maintained.
