SRINAGAR : The minimum temperature rose above the freezing point at most places in Kashmir due to cloud cover, even as rain or snowfall is expected over the next few days.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, rose over three notches from the previous night’s low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius to settle at 2.5 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department here said.
He said Pahalgam and Gulmarg resorts were the only places in the Valley where the night temperature stayed below the freezing point.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra during summer, recorded a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, an increase of nearly three notches from the previous night’s 3 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said the mercury in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 2 degrees Celsius against the previous night’s minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, settled at a low of 0.2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night’s zero degree Celsius. (AGENCIES)
