Fraud in CAPD: SVC seeks status report

JAMMU, Feb 15:  The State Vigilance Commission while exposing large scale embezzlements and other gross irregularities, allegedly committed by an official of CA&PD Department, Udhampur, has directed the Vigilance Organization to submit status report in the case of similar nature already under probe with them against the said official.
Earlier, while proceeding on a complaint, lodged by the Chairman Udhampur Transport Cooperative Ltd against an official of CA&PD Department Udhampur in connection with series of corrupt practices,   the Commission had sought report from the Director CA&PD Department, Jammu.
The report submitted by the Director CA&PD Department, Jammu prima-facie revealed that the Director CA&PD instead of initiating any comprehensive enquiry into the allegations levelled against the delinquent official, has tried to veil the issue by acting as a mere negotiator rather than to play a responsible role to expose the truth on the basis of available immediate evidence.
In the complaint, there are allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of Government Ration, huge bunglings in distribution and trans-shipment of ration to different areas of district in connivance and conspiracy with private mill owners, dealers and truck drivers, besides, a kingpin behind unwanted strikes that impeded the smooth functioning of the Department by abusing his official position thereby causing huge loss to the State Exchequer.
The State Vigilance Commission, while pursing the record available, observed that a case stood already registered in the Vigilance Organization against the said official in connection with siphoning off essential commodities as well as criminal breach of trust; nevertheless, the higher authorities being well acquainted with the facts about his doubtful integrity have given him important assignments.
The State Vigilance Commission before taking final call in the matter, has directed the Vigilance Organization to submit status report in the case being probed by it against the said official under FIR No. 06/2009.
